Chair Fabric Options. What do you think?

Thanks SO much for all of your support!! One of the things that I love about blogging is the supportive community – you all are the best!

We are in our new rental and it feels great to unpack (except for the fact that we brought two boxsprings .. we forgot to check the boxes before we loaded the uhaul, whoops!! We assumed since the movers had put corresponding numbers on the boxes, that they were a set) We’ll swap them when we go back to MD.

Yesterday I started tearing apart my $9.99 chair.

We’re planning on swapping the back channeling for tufting, since I don’t think we could replicate it.
Here’s some fabric options that I already have …

Kravet Archipelago Haze Gray

Kravet Riad Clove (dark brown) I only have one yard, but I could get more.

Kravet Xu Garden Orkid

I also love the idea of using a wide black and white stripe.

I’ll be using it as my office chair here – it’s going with our natural x leg desk. Since the fabrics are designed for light upholstery, I’m planning on layering it with a sheepskin to help with the wear. Then I can use it as a side chair later – hopefully it will hold up well. Has anyone used these fabrics on a chair?

So what do you think? Do you have a favorite? I think I want to paint the legs glossy black, but I’m open to suggestions!

Happy Friday, I hope that you have a great weekend!

(p.s. I’m at McDonalds now … still waiting on our wireless to be set up. I’m working mostly off of my phone now … so I may be a little slow publishing comments, etc.)

are you going to keep the channels in it? if yes, i think a larger pattern may look funny when it's pulled back? i think i like the pink or the other smaller scale one.

Thanks for listing the source for the pink fabric! I have been searching to no avail for affordable fabric just like that! Anyway, I obviously love the pink, but prefer my furniture more neutral (so I can mix things up) so I would go for the first option! (I don't think you could go wrong with any of those fabrics though!) Good luck!

I would give thought to which is least trendy, and would make the chair look dated within a few years.

I love the pink, but am also intrigued by the idea of black stripes- that could be really cool with the black legs and then the natural desk. Can't wait to see what you do!

Where will the chair be? What will be next do the chair? I'd say it's between 1 and 3 depending on what is beside it!

Where will the chair go? What will be beside it? Do you know yet? I would go with the 1st or 3rd depending on it's surroundings. 🙂

They are all great choices! I really like the idea of the black and white stripes that you mentioned, but then again I'm a little black/white stripes obsessed these days 🙂

If your fabric is thinner, use a solid white or cream muslin to upholster the chair first. Then use the fabric over top. That will give it the durability you want.

What about trying the black and white stripe on the back only and a different fabric on the front. It could be really interesting!

If it was my chair, I would definitely go with the black and white stripe and glossy black legs. I believe that would really make a statement chair no matter where it would be used in your home. I totally sympathize with your bed situation. I currently am on the sofa. I live in an apartment and we have a huge infestation of the nasty bed bugs and need 3 treatments and I still have the critters after one treatment. I am not sure I could ever use the bed again, but had surgery two months ago and no health insurance, so guess I better steel myself for saving money. Can't wait to see your chair finished. I love your blog so much.

I really like the gray fabric, but I think that the black and white stripe would be cool too. Or black and white with a colored trim. great bones to that chair. good find!
