One Room Challenge | Week 3 Flooring, Recessed lighting, and Selections

Hey Friends! Wow! Did that week go by quickly! We are officially done with drywall and paint! We had a few hiccups, but I’m so happy to move on and get to the prettier stuff. Last night we installed a floating cork floor and David’s dad wired the recessed lighting. Those two things make such a difference. Goodbye fluorescent lights and uneven semi gloss ceiling and walls! If you’re looking for an easy floor to install, consider a floating floor. This is the cork flooring that we selected, we love it!

Also, these recessed LED lights are amazing! So easy to install and the light is really pretty and soft, we used 3000K)

Next, we’re working on the geometric wood panels to cover the utility closet. I’m considering a few options for finishes, let me know if you have any thoughts!

  1. Wood feature wall behind sectional, charcoal and wood built in, charcoal barn door

2. Charcoal feature wall behind sectional, charcoal and wood built in, wood barn door

This morning, I went to look at slabs for a coffee table (remember from our Week 1 post?) I’m considering soapstone (gray in center of image)

And a white quartz with gray veining.

Lots to do, I’m going to get back to work! If you have any opinions on the finishes in the room, let them in the comments or on my instagram!

Catch up on Week 1 and Week 2

and check out what everyone else is up to here!

Hello. I actually got a sample of that same floor and did some scratch tests on it. It seemed like the surface scratched pretty easily. How is it holding up? I’d love to know. Looking great so far.

So far we like it! I scratched the sample with my nail and it held up ok, but I didn’t test with anything else. I wanted something a little softer and warmer than tile, so cork was a good option for us

Hi Sarah – Are you guys building the coffee table? Curious to see how that comes along. For the sliding door, it looks like you are considering two different designs and finishes. I can’t decide which I like better. I seem to be leaning towards the wood finish version but like both… depends on whether you want it to recede or stand out more. Enjoying the sneak peek!

We are planning on building the coffee table! The price for the stone top was over $300, so I was looking for something a little cheaper, so we’re considering other options. I hope we have enough time to finish before ORC reveal, but either way, we plan to make it 🙂 I think we are leaning towards staining, working on the post now with what it looks like!
