Stenciled Moroccan Table

Yesterday I finished painting this little table that I found on Craigslist a few months ago …

I sanded, primed, and painted it with SW Big Chill (a good neutral gray that is not too blue or brown)

I then taped it off and spray painted the drawer with Rustoleum Gloss White

Lastly I stenciled the top with a Martha Stewart stencil purchased at Michaels (same one I used on the bookshelf) – I mixed SW Big Chill with a little white

I have no place to put this little guy … so it will be put up for sale on Craigslist

Love the shelf below! Perfect for storing magazines … the right basket would look fab inside too!

I started stenciling in the center so that the stencil would end at the same point on the outer edges

Aren’t peonies the perfect flower? Love them!

I’m going to be sad to see this one go … but more room in the garage to  hoard hold my finds 🙂

While I was stenciling, I decided what I wanted to do with our table/desk seen in the background of the stenciled moroccan rug post … hopefully David will be on board … I’ll let you know!

Love the table! Just wondering, did you paint the top of the table your darker color and then stenciled over it with the white? If not how did you get the stencil to just have a small outline of your darker color?

Hi Nicole! Thanks for your question! The top is painted the same as the rest of the table. The stencil has the shape open, so that the thin lines are left the color below. I also attached an image of the stencil in the post. Hope that helps! Sarah

This is FAB to the 10th power! Love this. Thanks so much for sharing. My sis & I are starting a few DIY projects and would love to pick your brain. Which is better: Spray painting wood or painting. We found some cute chairs thrifting this weekend and don't know which to do. Thank you for your input!!!

Hi Tamika! Thank you! Spray painting vs brush … both have their positives! Spray painting is a little faster, less clean up, easy to get a smooth finish, but you have to apply in light coats – too much paint and it will run! Brushing is great too, gives you more control, can leave brush marks (I use sw pro classic with xim extender and apply in light coats – the key is not to over brush because it will leave brush marks – those that are left after brushing should level out with the xim) Hope that helps! Happy DIYing! Sarah

This is beautiful! What did you use to keep the stencil in place so that the paint didn't run? Your lines look so perfect and crisp!

Hi Shannon! Thank you! I tape the stencil down with blue painter's tape and get clean lines by lightly dipping the stencil brush in paint and then wiping off the excess with a paper towel (the less paint the better!) and always pull away from the stencil. Hope this helps! Sarah
